An employee of a restaurant in Reykjavík was fired for secretly smoking, allowing her girlfriends to drink alcohol, as well as various small thefts. The evidence for the dismissal was recorded with a hidden camera in the restaurant. However, her union has filed a complaint with the Protection of Privacy office that the dismissal was illegal, as by law all employees must be informed of any surveillance in the workplace. The case is still pending a decision.
