Thelma's headbands are all the rage and chic Icelandic girls in 101 Reykjavík have been wearing them en masse. Nonetheless, she would be most happy to see her mother wear one of her headbands. She shares a studio with four other young designers in Garðastræti 2 and on Friday afternoons they open their doors to passers-by who want to purchase their designs. Thelma is a girl on a mission whose next stop is Paris.How did you become a designer? With passion and hard work.Describe your work space. Small and cosy.What do you think of Icelandic fashion? There are many labels that I love, for example ELM, gowithjan and STEiNUNN.What inspires you? Uniforms and Icelandic nature.Who is your style icon? They are many; Marilyn Monroe is one of them.Who is your favourite designer? Vivienne Westwood, Sonja Rykiel, Marc Jacobs, Viktor & Rolf and Agent Provocateur, and many more.What piece that you designed yourself are you most happy about? My headbands.What's this thing you have with hair? I believe that the hair of the woman is her own crown, and I have always loved hats and headpieces.Best cities for fashion? For me it is Paris and London right now.How do Icelanders dress? Just like they want to dress.If not a designer, what would you do? Farmer's wife. Future plans? For now it is Paris.What's your favourite thing about life in Reykjavík?
