Strong winds expected in the afternoon By Iceland Mag 2. desember 2014 12:28 photo/gva The Icelandic Met Office has issued a severe weather warning across the southwest and northwest coast this afternoon, with winds reaching 23 metres per second (51 mph), sleet and rain. Lighter wind and mainly dry in the northeast. Temperatures will fall this evening and be followed by snow showers. Hail and icy patches are reported on Hellisheiði road and across South Iceland. Motorists are warned of ice on Holtavörðuheiði road and across West Iceland. Snow and ice are reported on roads in the Westfjords, leaving Hrafnseyrarheiði impassable and piles of snow on Dynjandisheiði road. Icy patches are to be expected on roads across North Iceland and East Iceland. It's important to stay informed when travelling in Iceland during winter. Never head off into the unknown–weather conditions in Iceland can change very quickly. Check the weather forecast before you set off and be well prepared.
