New City Government Takes Over

At 13:00 today, Vilhjálmur Þ. Vilhjálmsson became the 17th mayor of Reykjavík and Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir was voted president of City Council. The Independence Party, with seven seats, combined with the Progressive Party's one seat comprise the ruling coalition, ending 12 years of rule from R-listinn - the coalition originally formed to keep the Independence Party out of power. The remaining seats are comprised of four seats for the Social Democrats, two seats for the Leftist-Greens, and one seat for the Liberals.
